The Hybrid Composites Research Laboratory is structurally a part of the Underground Structures Construction and Mining Technologies Center.
What has been done up to date:
During the last twenty years, the laboratory/team has fulfilled 12 research projects funded by International (CRDF, CRDF-GRDF, MNTF, STCU) and Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation.
For the last five years the laboratory has been patronized the Telavi European School, whose pupils regularly participate in international competitions. They are the winners of the 2019 competition (Turkey). Before, they twice went to the award-winning place.
MAIN SCIENTIFIC DIRECTIONS:
- Fabrication of corrosion resistant polymeric composites;
- Fabrication of special hybrid organoplastics to increase construction impact and blast resistance;
- Development of fast-curing high-strength and impact-protected nanostructural concretes;
- Development biodegradable polymer composites;
- Selection of modern hybrid waterproofing materials for specific objects and development of a waterproofing project;
- Creation of new, radiation-proof materials by explosive consolidation of powder mixture (including polymeric powders).
DEVELOPMENTS READY FOR COMMERCIALIZATION:
MATERIAL-TECHNICAL BASE:
- Chemical laboratory (equipment for polymer synthesis and analysis);
- Supporting technological facilities (drying ovens, muffle furnace, various saws, 3D printer and etc.);
- Composite equipment for physical-mechanical testing (cutting machine, hardness measuring device, interferometer, device for analysis of durability and time yield, etc.).
